Meghan: It’s kind of harder to shock people now. Sizzy: That’s why I want to do things that are more bizarre and strange. I feel like if you are a solo female artist you often get lumped into the pop genre, especially if you’re pretty. I just wanna switch it up, shake it up, make it more exciting. ‘Cause it feels kinda boring, doesn’t it? Female pop right now. There are a lot of angel voices and everything’s really timid and soft and safe and about heartbreak. Meghan: Do you think they’d be better if they were together? Sizzy: No, I just feel like you could make a lot of girl groups out of solo female pop acts in NY or LA. Would you rather be part of a group than a solo artist? Meghan: You tweeted once that you think all of the slow pop female artists in NYC & LA should break off into groups of 3, 5, or 7 and form hundreds of girl groups. Sizzy recently got a lot of attention for her music video “Bestie” She’s the best fast food love story you’ve ever known. Sizzy is an alter ego in the most genuine way possible. She’s still Sizzy, too – the same way Bowie is also Ziggy Stardust. So here we are – two bad kids talking “Bad Kids.” She’s still Sabrina I’m still me. When I was offered the chance to produce her upcoming video for “Bad Kids,” I got that feeling – that feeling when you know you’re a part of something special. I witnessed her evolve as a performer, I witnessed her sign to a label I witnessed the audience response to “Girls,” and to “Bestie,” and to Sizzy Fucking Rocket as a whole. I met Sabrina through mutual friends at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute, and I’ve been lucky enough to witness her evolution as an artist ever since. Looking back, I should have known all along that she was different. In New York, especially in the music world, that’s something special. I knew the name Sizzy Rocket long before I ever met Sabrina. All of that energy trying to fix something that was destined to break could've been spent on bettering yourself and your art.Interview by Meghan O’Connor.

Listen to your intuition and never, ever stay in a one-sided relationship. What dating and or sex advice would you give to yourself? I haven't gotten to perform any songs from ANARCHY live yet because of the pandemic but I loved performing " Tattoos" on the GRRRL tour - I think that song does a great job of balancing the tension between aggressive desire and soft, gay sensuality. What song allows you to tap into your sensuality most during a performance? That's where I feel the most in tune with my sensual self - submerged in rose petals and scalding hot water. Tell me about a moment you felt like you were in tune with your sensual self.įun fact! I take bubble baths every single day - with rose petals, oils, the works! When I come home from the studio it's my safe place, away from the world and completely alone with time to reflect on my art and just let myself *be*. It's so important and I think a major key to healing, personally and culturally!

I've been cultivating my feminine energy. Lately, it feels like I've reached a place in my artistry where I want to approach my work and the world with more softness. Honestly, I thrive in that space! So it's rare for me to show my vulnerability. It's the easiest for me to access and as a female working in the boys club that is the music industry I've spent a lot of time in that masculine, dominant space. It felt powerful, and that's the side of myself I usually summon whenever I face the world. Can you talk about that a little bit?Īhhhh yes.my soft side! I loved working on this shoot with you because I feel like visually, especially for the past year during the ANARCHY era, I worked hard to channel my inner punk and chose to exploit the tougher side of my artistry. During our shoot, we talked a bit about the balance between softness and assertiveness. You’ve always been a muse for how you express sensuality.

I've been working on it for the past 3 months and I absolutely can't wait to show you. I have an insane project coming out this summer.I can't say what it is yet but if you're a real fan of music and pop culture it's pretty mind-blowing. Is there anything you’re looking forward to this year?
